Self-Understanding
Accessibility is an essential feature of modern websites today – it is a mark of quality, enhances the user experience, and ensures legal compliance. Enabling full access for all user groups reflects our corporate understanding of digital responsibility and social participation.
Our Commitment
This specifically means for us:
- Semantically correct frontend: Clean HTML structures, meaningful ARIA roles, consistent component logic.
- Conceptual accessibility: Focus management, logical tab order, keyboard operation, understandable interactions.
- Editorial clarity: Plain language, readable typography, descriptive links, alt texts.
- Accessible media: Videos with transcripts and subtitles, high-contrast thumbnails, visual descriptions where applicable.
- Technical assistive friendliness: Support for prefers-reduced-motion and other system-based user preferences.
- Sustainable further development: Regular audits, action plans, and continuous maintenance of digital accessibility.
Applicable Standard
Our website complies with the following legal and normative frameworks:
- German Regulation on Accessible Information Technology (BITV 2.0)
- German Act on Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (BGG)
- Directive (EU) 2016/2102
- WCAG 2.1 – aiming for conformance level AA+
Audit Completed
Status: This online service has been tested for accessibility.
Conducted by: ALEKS & SHANTU GmbH
Period: June 16, 2025.
Level of compliance:
The website is currently not fully compliant with the requirements of WCAG 2.1 at conformance level AA.
Some parts of the online service consist of legacy content published before June 28, 2025. According to § 2 (3) BFSG, these are subject to grandfathering provisions, which means there is no immediate legal obligation to ensure full accessibility.
Nevertheless, our goal is to gradually reduce existing barriers and adapt protected content to the WCAG 2.1 AA requirements in the long term – as far as technically and economically feasible.
Optimization Strategy
Our optimization strategy follows WCAG 2.1, conformance level AA, and additionally aims for selected AAA-level requirements (AA+), where technically and editorially appropriate.
The goal is to continuously improve accessibility without compromising system stability or user experience. Accordingly:
- new content and functions are created to be accessible,
- existing components are revised for accessibility with every technical, functional, or design update,
- content maintenance and updates are carried out with accessibility awareness,
- voluntary extensions are implemented according to selected WCAG 2.1 AAA criteria, where feasible within technical, design, and economic limits.
This component-based and ongoing adjustment process serves the sustainable improvement of digital accessibility in accordance with the BFSG – without compromising system stability or user experience.
An overview of identified optimization potential and planned measures with a timeline is documented in the following section of this statement.
Optimization Strategy
Despite largely achieving Level AA compliance, the goal is to continuously develop the online service further and – where appropriate – incorporate selected WCAG Level AAA (AA+) requirements:
This component-based and ongoing adjustment process serves the sustainable improvement of digital accessibility in accordance with the BFSG – without compromising system stability or user experience.
Testing Procedure & Methodology
The review was carried out using the following procedure:
1. Manual Testing
- Keyboard navigation
- Screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS)
- Focus management and visual orientation
2. Automated Tools
- axe
- Lighthouse
- WAVE
3. Conceptual Analysis
- Structure, navigation, semantic markup logic
- Assistive technology compatibility
4. Editorial Review
- Language, alternative texts, ARIA attributes, clarity
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) and with the applicable European Standard, due to the following non-conformities and exceptions:
1.1.1 Non-text Content (A)
Not all non-text elements (e.g., images, graphics, controls) have meaningful alternative text that properly describes their purpose or content. This can lead to information loss, especially for screen reader users.
1.2.3 Audio Description or Alternative for Video (A) / 1.2.5 Audio Description for Video (AA)
Pre-recorded videos lack audio descriptions, making visual content inaccessible for blind and visually impaired users.
1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A)
The HTML structure and semantic markup are not consistently implemented (e.g., not all texts are wrapped in <p></p> tags or headings marked with <h2> and similar). This hinders assistive technology use.
1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose (AA)
Form fields are not consistently marked with their intended input purpose (e.g., for autofill support), which can create usability issues, particularly on mobile devices.
1.4.3 Contrast Minimum (AA)
Text does not always meet the minimum required contrast ratio of 4.5:1, making it difficult to read for users with visual impairments.
1.4.5 Images of Text (AA)
In several cases, text is displayed as an image without an alternative solution, which reduces scalability and readability.
2.1.1 Keyboard Accessibility (A)
Not all website functions are fully operable via keyboard. This limits access for users with motor impairments who cannot use a mouse.
2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide (A)
Moving content (e.g., carousels, animations, pop-up notices) cannot always be paused, stopped, or hidden, which may cause distraction and impair comprehension.
2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (A)
Direct skip links to the main content (“Skip to Content”) are missing on some pages. This forces screen reader and keyboard users to navigate manually through menus or repeated content.
2.4.4 Link Purpose (A)
The purpose of some links is not clearly identifiable from the link text or context (e.g., “click here” instead of “view product details”). This is especially problematic for screen reader users, who often only hear the isolated link text.
2.4.5 Multiple Ways (AA)
Some pages lack alternative navigation options such as a search function, sitemap, or table of contents, which makes it harder for users to efficiently locate content.
2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA)
The visible focus indicator (e.g., outline or color change) is not always clear. Without it, keyboard users cannot reliably identify which element is currently active.
2.5.8 Target Size (AA / AAA)
Interactive elements (e.g., buttons, links) are sometimes too small or placed too close together, making them difficult to use on touch devices and increasing the likelihood of unintentional input.
3.2.1 On Focus (A)
Interactive components (e.g., forms, menus) trigger unexpected changes in context when receiving focus, input, or selection (e.g., automatic submission, navigation without warning). This disrupts user control and may cause confusion.
3.2.3 Consistent Navigation (AA)
Recurring components (e.g., header, footer, main navigation, breadcrumbs, buttons) are not consistently presented in the same order or style. This makes it harder for users, particularly those with cognitive disabilities, to learn and navigate the site.
4.1.1 Parsing (A)
The HTML contains syntax errors (e.g., missing tags, mis-nested elements, duplicate IDs), which can interfere with assistive technology processing.
4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A)
User interface components lack required roles, states, or properties (e.g., aria-* attributes), preventing assistive technologies from interpreting them correctly.
4.1.3 Status Messages (AA)
Status messages (e.g., form submission confirmations, loading indicators) are not presented in a way that can be recognized by screen readers, leaving important feedback inaccessible to users with visual impairments.
Objective: AA+ as Standard
The goal is to reliably meet the legal requirements of WCAG 2.1 Level AA and additionally implement elements from the extended area of digital accessibility (partly WCAG 2.1 AAA) – where appropriate and technically feasible within the project context.
Implementation takes place within the framework of re-audits, module-specific updates, and project-related maintenance processes. All relevant measures, deadlines, and responsibilities are documented transparently.
Technical Requirements
This website is optimized for current browser generations (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and supports assistive technologies such as screen readers and zoom functions. System settings (e.g. reduced motion) are taken into account where technically possible.
Report Barriers
This online service has been tested for accessibility. In addition, a comprehensive re-audit is conducted once a year.
